Settling in...

So Will and I have been in California for a week now, and are trying our best to settle in. Well, I am, anyway. Will's already been here for months, so he's at ease. There are still a mountain of boxes to unpack and so much work to catch up on, so things have been a little crazy.

Our dog Bailey got really ill right before we left for CA, so that put a dent in our move. She's doing better, but I have to find a new vet for her soon. In the meantime I am going crazy trying to figure out how to give her her antibiotics every day. She's like a cat - she smells the pills and picks them out of whatever we try to hide them in. We've tried crushing them and mixing them in her food, we've tried hiding them in hot dogs, chicken, cheddar cheese, peanut butter, Velveeta (which worked great for about a week until she figured it out), chicken broth, you name it. She is too smart for her own good and nearly impossible to fool. -_-;

Meanwhile, I'm still searching for my scanner which I'll need to show my editor Sabrina pages and to update My Poorly Drawn Life and I can not find it for the life of me! I'm worried we might be missing some stuff because we accidentally ended up with someone else's mirrors and wine glasses and tea-cups. We're also having trouble finding a number of vital kitchen appliances. (Coffee maker where are yoooou?!!) Ahh, the fun of moving. The only good thing is that Will and I spent most of Saturday getting our new studio in order, hooking up computers and building bookshelves. I still need to figure out a slanted place to draw, because there's no room for my old drawing table, but I can work on the flat desks until then. And I'm excited about my new "crafty corner", which is really a little closet, which we've converted into a space for my sewing machine and buckets of yarn!

In other news, I'll be going to San Diego Comic Con to geek out, but it turns out I'll also be on an Archie panel on Sunday, June 29, 10:30-11:30 in Room 4.

Also, Sabrina just got a good review over at SBC which made my day. I always appreciate it when people take time to review my comic. ^_^

The other big news is that I've officially signed up to do a 1-volume book with TOKYOPOP. It's currently untitled, but it's a story about two best friends and their 15th birthday parties. I won't say any more at the moment, but I'm looking forward to working on it!

I'm also looking forward to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! I'm currently plowing through the first 6 books (again), to refresh my memory before Book 7 hits. On the 20th, I'm planning to go to a midnight party at a Borders nearby and geek out! I haven't had a chance to see the latest movie, but I hope to soon. There's just too much to do!

Well, that's it for now. I better get back to unpacking all these boxes...

congrats on the move and the Tokyopop book!

California is a pretty great, i am sure you will love it there :)

We had the pill problem with Daisy too initially but since her surgery she scarfs down any food we put in front of her regardless of what might be hidden inside.

I'm excited to hear about the TokyoPop book. They've been putting out some good stuff lately: Amy Kim Ganter, Becky Cloonan, Brandon Graham, etc.

Hey, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Very cool...are you gonna write and illustrate??? In any case 'can't wait to hear more 'bout it.

Bummer about Bailey. Our fat pooch hates taking antibiotics, he can smell them a mile away. I just put it in a slimy kinda processed meat product (hot dog works) and just put it in the way back of his throat. He can't chew and is forced to swallow it...slime helps it go down easy!

I dread moving my pups (old actually) over seas...we gotta go to Swiss land for a few and they hafta go with....oh the misery..

Anyways, please keep us posted!

Mary!

Oooh.

Hope the settling in goes smoothly, and will keep an eye out for your special project.

O.T.: Thanks for finally shedding a little light on the mystery of poor Harvey.
